About the Speakers

Eileen De Guire is director of technical content and communications at The American Ceramic Society, where she manages all ACerS publishing, education, and communication activities. During her nine-year tenure at ACerS, she has split her time between the office in Columbus, Ohio,  and her home in Cleveland, Ohio. Besides herself, several team members work remotely permanently or on a part-time basis.

Julie Steffen has been Director of Publishing for the American Astronomical Society since 2014.  Before that, she spent 25 years at the University of Chicago, where she served for many years as Director of Astronomy Publications at the University of Chicago Press. Julie enjoys the many challenges of publishing the global astronomy community’s research output, including maintaining a community-run, non-profit publishing program in today’s increasingly commercial environment.  She has served on the board of directors of the Society for Scholarly Publishing, on faculty for the Council of Science Editors short courses in Publication Management, and is currently a vice-chair of the CESSE Publications Special Interest Group. Julie is based in Tucson, Arizona.

Sharon H. Kneebone, CAE, IOM, is the Executive Director for the National Society for Histotechnology.  She began her tenure in 2015 and led the organization’s transformation to entirely virtual in 2017.  Ms. Kneebone has over 15 years of executive management experience in addition to program-specific roles in governance, membership, and component relations. She has been an active association volunteer, serving in many roles, including contributing author in the Component Relations Handbook, 2nd Ed.
