Lessons Learned from the APS Virtual Meeting

As the American Physical Society put it, “the April Meeting must go on…line.” The Chief Information Officer and Director of Meetings at APS will walk through what they learned from transitioning their in-person April Meeting to a virtual meeting. They’ll discuss:

  • the constraints of physical versus virtual meetings
  • how attendees interact virtually
  • how best to work with staff, vendors, attendees and exhibitors
  • how the future will include hybrid meetings

Eligible for 1 CAE credit. 

About the Speakers

Hunter Clemens, CAE, CMP is a strategic association executive and the Director of Meetings for the American Physical Society. He offers more than 30 years of accomplishment-laden experience in the association community and the hospitality and meetings industry. Hunter is known for his integrity and is highly regarded by his customers and colleagues alike. He is a member of ASAE, PCMA, MPI, and AMPs. He is a Past-Chair of the American Society of Association Executive’s Meetings and Exposition Section Council and is a past member on the AMC Section Council of ASAE.

He periodically teaches courses on meetings and event management for ASAE as well as the CMP Study Course.

Dr. Mark Doyle has been with the American Physical Society for almost 24 years and is now Chief Information Officer. His main responsibilities are to oversee and manage all IT-related aspects of the APS, including the systems associated with its journals, membership, meetings, and programs. In addition, he is directly involved in the Society's strategic planning as part of the Senior Management Team. Mark is currently the Co-chair of the CHORUS Technical Working Group. He also serves on NISO's Standing Committee for JATS: Journal Article Tag Suite and ORCID’s Publications and User Facilities Working Group. 



Sharon Lensky is the technical support manager at the American Physical Society and is based at their Editorial Office in Long Island, NY.  She has worked for the publishing branch of the Society since 1988 and has been involved with CESSE for well over a decade as an attendee, speaker, moderator, and committee member.
