Silver Most Valuable Member

I enjoy helping my scientific discipline (Astronomy) by using my skills and abilities to help communicate the benefit of basic research to Congress. I also have overseen the transition of the publication of our society's research journals to a new publisher. The AAS continues to expand in both membership and focus through the targeted application of our limited resources. We work very hard to keep costs low so that membership dues are as low as possible without threatening the long term health of the society.

I oversee an office of 16 staff who manage to organize the world's largest astronomy meeting once a year in addition to our summer meeting and between one and three division meetings, publish our semi-monthly newsletter, oversee the publication of our journals and handle all membership renewals and issues. It is a big job and the staff of the AAS are top-notch, working efficiently to accomplish all these tasks with an eye to keeping costs low.
